Mind-Opening Trips

I had the chance to participate in an international conference (Seminar SEBUMI) from June 24th-25th 2008 at Universitas Indonesia (South of Jakarta). Most of the participants were actually from Malaysia, Indoenesia, Singapore and Brunei. It was quite an experience to look at the university surroundings. First of all, you can see their students sitting along the corridors (on the floor!!) because they got their lap tops connected to the power points that are built on the wall of the building. The students who acted as the sub-committees were very committed, and well-mannered. Shockingly, the chairperson for my session was very very punctual in time. He started and ended the session strictly on time. This is definitely a scenario which we find hard to discover in Malaysia.

Well, there are actually several other shocking scenario which I've found over there. The effeciency of the transportation system is one of them. The students did not rush into the bus. Perhaps it is because the universities have provided a very systematic transportation system there. There are sooo many buses around the campus. Travellers who went to the varsity won't face with any travelling problem at all. By staying at Wisma Makara (an in-campus hotel), we just need to get on the Bis Kuning (bus) which is stationed at the Wisma itself in order to move around the campus. As a matter of fact, it was also very easy to get transportation to any parts of Jakarta eventhough the city is as thrice as big as K.L. You just name it....any Silver Bird cabs (mostly Camry, Waja or Vios), buses or some public transport called Angkut (Angkutan Awam).
